A survey by a UK pet insurance company has found that one in five dog owners admit that they feed their pets a better diet than they eat themselves.

I’m not sure whether this is good news for the dogs, very bad news for the owners… or both.

Seriously, though - feeding your dog your own meal scraps may not be in his or her best interests. Dogs are just as prone to health problems - including excessive weight - from an unsuitable diet as we are. Research a suitable diet for your dog from reputable sources on the web (sorry, the Hound TV dog diet page isn’t finished yet!) or ask your vet.

Flatulent dog? Try odour an neutralizing thong!

At the moment one of our toddler’s favourite books is Walter the Farting Dog. So it’s most appropriate that I just came across this unusual new product (thanks to ‘international science humor magazine’ Annals of Improbable Research

The The Dogone - Dog Gas Neutralizing Pad by Flat-D is based on similar products for humans from the same manufacturer, like the UnderEase odor-trapping underwear with a removable charcoal filter.

As it says on the Flat-D home page, “Flatulence is part of life. It is a natural result of good digestion. Most of us try to make light of it so as to not be embarrassed by its occurrence.”

Well, now dog owners can eliminate those embarrasing smells - although it is at the expense of humiliating your beloved pooch with this rather silly-looking garment. We at Hound TV can’t help wondering if a change in diet might be a better solution.

The Flat-D website was broken when Hound TV visited (probably because of the massive attention it’s getting from our readers), but we did manage to view google’s cache of the page as well as several other reports about the product.

Off-lead dog parks

The Boston Globe reports that following the recent opening of an off-leash dog park, dog owners are pushing for more such parks in other areas: Going to the dogs: Pets get their park

City-dwellers - are there any specific off-leash dog parks in your area?
Should we start a worldwide database of them right here on the Hound TV website?

The Australian Landmark Kelpie Muster: Casterton, VIC, 10-11 June 2006

At the Million Paws Walk in Melbourne this morning, HoundTV caught up with Nicky from the Australian Landmark Kelpie Muster.

The Muster is held annually over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend (10-11 June) in Casterton, in Victoria’s South-West, which is the birthplace of the Kelpie. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the muster, and the event includes a working dog auction (some of the dogs are worth up to $5,000); a festival, complete with Kelpie street parade; a black tie ball; and a working dog school over two days.

For more information visit the Kelpie Muster website (we’ve also added a Kelpie page to HoundTV.com).

…oh, and non-keplies are welcome, too.
