The Australian Landmark Kelpie Muster: Casterton, VIC, 10-11 June 2006

At the Million Paws Walk in Melbourne this morning, HoundTV caught up with Nicky from the Australian Landmark Kelpie Muster.

The Muster is held annually over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend (10-11 June) in Casterton, in Victoria’s South-West, which is the birthplace of the Kelpie. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the muster, and the event includes a working dog auction (some of the dogs are worth up to $5,000); a festival, complete with Kelpie street parade; a black tie ball; and a working dog school over two days.

For more information visit the Kelpie Muster website (we’ve also added a Kelpie page to

…oh, and non-keplies are welcome, too.

  • I rescued a Kelpie in 2004 from a shelter in Los Alamos, NM. He is the most awesome dog I have ever owned. He is black and tan and named Zeke. I love the Australian websites about Kelpies. Unfortunately here in the USA the breeders took them off the AKC Registry and we cannot show or work them. very sad. Not like the UK, Irl or Europe where any breed or crossbreed can work.

My last crossbreed was a shepherd/collie mix and he became Irl and UK Champion Working Trials at 2 1/2yrs. Zeke would love to work in champion competitions, herding etc. alas USA does not allow that.
