Like, the Border Collie, the Border Terrier was originally bred near the border between Scotland and England.
Border Terriers were originally used to kill rodents and protect flocks of sheep by killing foxes. They were first recognized by kennel clubs in 1920 (1930 in the USA).
The weight range for Border Terriers is 5.5 – 7.5 kg, height about 25-28 cm, and they have a coarse, bristly coat.
Border Terriers can be expected to live for around 15 years, and are active little characters, requiring a reasonable amount of stimulation – so they may be less suitable for older people, for example.
